Declan Carlile and forward
Max Newton were named to 2021-22 Hockey East All-Star teams, as announced by the league office Friday.
Carlile was named to the league's second team all-star list, while Newton was named an honorable mention player.
The junior defenseman is in the midst of a dominant season from the backend. Carlile leads all Warrior defensemen with 24 points on the strength of seven goals and 17 assists this winter. He also leads the team with a +18 rating and his 83 blocked shots tops Hockey East and ranks him in a tie for fifth in the NCAA. In his Merrimack career, he has tallied 56 points on 13 goals and 43 assists in 82 appearances.
Newton, who was named captain before the year after he transferred to the team in the middle of the 2020-21 season, has been chasing down program records this year in offensive output. His 38 points on the season ties him for the third-most in a single season for Merrimack since the turn of the century. He has also been a force at the faceoff dot with a .599 success rate. In 43 games with Merrimack, he's tallied 45 points on 17 goals and 28 assists.
Merrimack returns to the ice Saturday afternoon for the 2022 Hockey East tournament quarterfinal round at UMass Lowell. Puck drop is set for 4:30 at Tsongas Center and is set to be broadcast live on NESN+.
