EVERETT, Mass. - Merrimack College men's hockey senior forward,
Jordan Seyfert, was honored with the 2022 Hockey Commissioners Association Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award, as announced Friday evening at the Hobey Baker Award announcement at Encore Boston Harbor Resort.
The honor, which is chosen among a pool of national candidates, "recognizes a fearless leader and beloved fan favorite who always places his team first. Displaying exemplary sportsmanship, he's supremely competitive, intelligent and extraordinarily conditioned with an unmatched work ethic. The contributions of this individual, on and off the ice, cannot be measured by statistics alone." Seyfert recently completed his senior season where he overcame a multitude of obstacles to return to the ice and play a major role for the Warriors.

Following a strong freshman season that included 10 points in 29 games, Seyfert was in the midst of another great year his sophomore season, but a broken ankle during practice closed the book on that year after just 16 games. The Annville, Pa. native fought back from injury and was primed to return for his junior campaign, but a torn labrum ended his 2020-21 season before it even started. After he was a continuous presence in the Merrimack dressing room on game day and at practices alike for two seasons while he was injured, he battled his way into the lineup his senior year and ended 2021-22 with eight points on two goals and six assists in 20 games. He also appeared in both of the team's playoff games and notched an assist in the team's Hockey East tournament opening round win over Maine at Lawler Rink.
Off the ice, he holds a 3.315 GPA as a business management major and has been heavily involved in the program's affiliation with Team IMPACT and has volunteered with the Merrimack College grounds department.
Seyfert's award opened up the evening, which included a multitude of other prestigious honors, including the presentation of the 2022 Hobey Baker trophy.
