An Announcement Regarding Merrimack Athletics

North Andover, Mass. - Merrimack College announced today that Jeremy Gibson, vice president for athletic affairs and deputy chief of staff to the president, will step down from his position on January 31, 2025, to accept the position of Dean of Athletics at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Jeremy has been instrumental to the Merrimack community for the past 12 years. Under his leadership, Merrimack Athletics transformed. It transitioned from Division II to Division I, grew from 23 to 28 varsity sports, moved first to the Northeast Conference (NEC) and then to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and enhanced its facilities.

"Jeremy's impact not only elevated Merrimack athletic programs to new heights but also solidified the pivotal role athletics plays in the overall growth of the College," said Merrimack College President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D. "More people today know the Warrior brand than ever before because of Jeremy's commitment to enhancing every aspect of Merrimack Athletics."

During his tenure, Jeremy oversaw the addition of new varsity programs at Merrimack including women's ice hockey, dance, men's volleyball, men's golf and women's bowling. Jeremy helped generate support for several historic facility enhancements and additions, including the construction of Duane Stadium, the reconstructed Lawler Arena and the installation of the Lawler basketball court. Jeremy also oversaw the re-launch of the Merrimack College Athletics Hall of Fame.

A national search for a new Director of Athletics will begin immediately. Fr. Bryan Kerns, O.S.A., vice president and chief of staff to the President and secretary of the Board of Trustees will serve as Interim Vice President for Athletics.
