North Andover, MA-- The Merrimack Men's Hockey team bounced back with a weekend sweep over the Northeastern Huskies, moving into eighth in the Hockey East standings in the process. Merrimack also had several milestones to celebrate over the weekend as captain
Mark Hillier played in his 100th games as a player, and head coach
Scott Borek became the fifth in team history and third at the Division-I level to win 100 games. Merrimack now get ready to face New Hampshire, opening the set at home at 7 PM before heading to Durham on Saturday also at 7 PM. Both games can be seen on ESPN Plus, but Saturday's game can also be seen on NESN.
Max Lundgren won his 11th and 12th games of the season, (the second most in the conference) making 53 saves on 55 shots. Lundgren was named as the lone Hobey Baker nominee as well as being named to the Richter Award watchlist both for the first time last week. Lundgren also leads the conference in saves with 690 and is fourth in save percentage with .921. Lundgren also received conference honors this week as he was named Defender of the Week on Monday afternoon. In their earlier meeting with New Hampshire this season, Max made 20 saves enroute to a 5-1 win.
Parker Lalonde was a big piece in Merrimack's sweep over Northeastern with a goal and assist in both games, as well as moving into a tie for the top spot in the team scoring table with
Trevor Hoskin as they both have 22 points in 23 games, which is the seven most points in the conference.
Merrimack's defensemen were integral to their sweep the previous weekend, only allowing two goals but also collected five assists in those games as both
Cam Kungle and
Austin Oravetz had multi assist games on Thursday and Friday respectively, and
Seamus Powell also had an assist. Each of these three players had an assist on both game winning goals as well.
Merrimack have gone unbeaten in the last four meetings between these teams, going 3-0-1, including a 5-1 victory earlier this season which was highlighted by a
Parker Lalonde hat trick and a
Trevor Hoskin three point game as well.
