NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team celebrated its banner night in style as the Warriors came back from a one-goal deficit three different times en route to a shootout win against the University of Hampshire.
It was a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation before
Trevor Hoskins netted the only goal in the shootout to grant the Warriors the thrilling win. Merrimack goaltender
Linards Feldbergs, playing his first game at Lawler Arena, stopped all three New Hampshire shooters.
"Real hard win," head coach
Scott Borek said. "We've been chasing it for two weeks in a row, and today we just stayed with it and finished. We're working towards our identity, and I loved the way our guys hung in the game."
After Merrimack celebrated its 2026 Hockey East Championship by unveiling the banner in the rafters, which proved to be an emotionally-charged pregame, the Wildcats tried to steal the thunder early with a goal in the opening two minutes.
Merrimack found its first of three equalizers four minutes later as
Caden Cranston fed captain
Caelan Fitzpatrick for the goal.
Hoskin's first of two goals provided to be the second equalizer for the Warriors, sending the two clubs into the first intermission with the game tied, 2-2.
The Warriors tied the game for a third time at 13:11 of the third period. The goal came as
Simon-Pier Brunet unleashed a shot from the blue line for his first career goal.
Merrimack (0-1-1) has the weekend off before the Warriors returns to their non-conference schedule against Minnesota State next Friday at 7 pm.
