Foglietta’s Runner-Up Finish Propels Women’s Cross Country to Second Place at Kirsh Cup

HOPKINTON, N.H. – A season-best time helped senior Tia Foglietta earn a runner-up individual finish to help the Merrimack College women's cross country team place second overall at the Kirsh Cup on Saturday at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Foglietta was one of two Warriors to earn top-10 finishes in the individual leaderboard.

How It Happened:
  • In the team's final regular season tune-up before the postseason races begin in two weeks, Foglietta didn't hold anything back as she unleashed her best time of the year, crossing the finish line in 18:41.4 seconds to earn a runner-up finish for the entire race. She was seven seconds behind the eventual winner.
  • Senior captain Sophie Gorton was also a top-10 finisher on Saturday, placing ninth with a time of 19:15.6 seconds while averaging 6:11.9 seconds per mile. The time was her second-fastest in any race all year.
  • Sophomore Julia Dempsey and senior Jackie Coscia both placed in the top-30; Dempsey was slotted 23rd after a finish in 19:43 even – her first sub-20-minute time of the year; Coscia, meanwhile, was also under 20 minutes for the first time this year, placing 27th with a time of 19:52.6 seconds.
  • Senior Morgan DeBolt rounded out the top-five for the Warriors with her first sub-20 time of the year, as well; she finished in 19:57.9 while placing 31st overall.
  • The Warriors trailed only Stonehill in the 11-team race, beating third-place Saint Anselm by more than 20 points.
Up Next
Merrimack will host the Homecoming 5K next Saturday on campus before competing in the 2018 NE10 Championships for the final time on Nov. 4 back at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds.
