Location: Robert Dowd Course / Dartmouth, Mass.
What They Said:
Head coach
Chris Cameron: "Most of the girls had personal records today, which was great. A very good effort by our top-four runners and really the entire roster. We still need to get a little healthy as we were missing some key contributors still, but I think we're right on the road to doing big things, which is obviously a great sign."
How It Happened:
- After winning the Shacklette Invitational two weeks ago, Ferrara placed third overall at a race with a much bigger field and was the fastest Warrior runner for the second straight event, finishing with a time of 18:19.44 that smashed the old school record of 18:43.
- Sophomore Kate Fisher and senior Tia Foglietta were neck-and-neck in 10th and 11th place, respectively, with times of 18:48.54 and 18:52.00.
- Rounding out the top four runners for Merrimack was senior Sophie Gorton, who ended the day with a time of 19:04.99 and was the 15th-best finisher in the individual leader board.
- Underclassmen Sarah Tierney – a freshman – and sophomore Julia Dempsey also put together strong showings by finishing inside the top half of the nearly 160-person field. Tierney posted a time of 20:03.01, while Dempsey crossed in 20:11.57.
- The Warriors were the top Division II program at the meet and were two points back of Trinity for second place. Merrimack topped Division I Holy Cross and five other Northeast-10 Conference schools.
Up Next
Merrimack will return to action next Saturday when it visits Franklin Park in Boston for the first of back-to-back races, as the Warriors compete in the Codfish Bowl on Sept. 22.
