NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team takes to the road for the first time this season when they visit Fairfield, Conn. to take on the Fairfield Stags.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack dropped its second decision of the season Saturday afternoon against Dartmouth by a 13-11 final. The Warriors jumped out to a 3-1 lead 10 minutes in, but four separate 2-0 runs by the Big Green proved to be too much, as it held off a late charge for the two-goal win at Duane Stadium. Charlie Bertrand had six goals in the loss, which marked the 10th time in his illustrious career that he has scored at least six goals in a game.
- For the second straight season, Bertrand was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list, as announced Feb. 13. The award is given out to the best player in men's and women's college lacrosse and Bertrand is the first Warrior in history to be named to the list twice. Just one other player, Corey Lunney '13, has been named to the list. He now has 259 career points on 200 goals and 59 assists. The senior is one of 50 players named to the initial list.
- Merrimack returns one of the most prolific offenses in the country, even though its the first year of NCAA Division I play for the Warriors. Bertrand, Christian Thomas and Sean Black all have point streaks of 35 games or longer, which is all ranked in the top-10 in the nation when it comes to longest active point streaks. Bertrand has the longest active streak in the country at 54 games, while Thomas has the sixth longest at 41 games and Black's 35 game-streak is the 10th longest. Bertrand and Thomas have also scored a point in every game of their career.
- The Warriors have been nothing short of deadly with the man up so far in 2020. Merrimack has received six chances with the extra player and has scored on all six of them. Bertrand has scored three of them (all in the Dartmouth game), Thomas has netted two and Dom Thomas has the other.
- The Stags started their campaign Saturday afternoon with a tight 18-16 win over Stony Brook in Fairfield. The visiting Seawolves started the game on a 5-0 run, but Fairfield climbed back and an 8-0 run that spanned the whole third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, was enough. Dylan Beckwith and Taylor Strough both finished with five goals and Brian Reda led the Stags with four assists. James Corasaniti played all 60 minutes in goal and made 11 saves to earn the win.
