NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team finishes a busy week when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on Big 10 opponent Michigan.

Five Things to Know:
  • The Warriors had a back-and-forth battle with Fairfield Tuesday afternoon in Connecticut, but the Stags eventually pulled it out by a 14-11 final. The home side led 5-1 after one quarter of play, but the Warriors clawed back and even held an 11-9 lead in the fourth quarter, but a 5-0 Stag run to end the game kept Merrimack winless. Charlie Bertrand continued his stellar start to the season, as he netted three goals and added three assists for six points. Sean Black and Christian Thomas both finished with three points in the losing effort.
  • For the second straight season, Bertrand was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list, as announced Feb. 13. The award is given out to the best player in men's and women's college lacrosse and Bertrand is the first Warrior in history to be named to the list twice. Just one other player, Corey Lunney '13, has been named to the list. Bertrand now has 265 career points on 203 goals and 62 assists. The senior is one of 50 players named to the initial list.
  • Merrimack returns one of the most prolific offenses in the country, even though its the first year of NCAA Division I play for the Warriors. Bertrand, Christian Thomas and Black all have point streaks of 36 games or longer, which is all ranked in the top-10 in the nation when it comes to longest active point streaks. Bertrand has the longest active streak in the country at 55 games, while Thomas has the sixth longest at 42 games and Black's 36 game-streak is tied for the ninth longest. Bertrand and Thomas have also scored a point in every game of their careers.
  • Black has picked up where he left off in terms of distributing the ball this spring. The junior has nine assists through three games, which puts him in a tie for ninth in the country in the category. He finished 2019 with 75 assists, which was tops in the country by 28 helpers.
  • The Wolverines are currently in their ninth season as a varsity program and are off to a 2-1 start after a 16-8 win over Canisius Tuesday in Ann Arbor. Bryce Clay and Josh Zawada share the team lead with 13 points, while Clay is the top goal scorer with 12. Face-off men Nick Rowlett and Matt Dellacroce have been stellar so far on the draw and have combined to win 49 of 77, which equates to a .636 winning percentage. The Wolverines' team face-off winning percentage is 14th in the NCAA.
