NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Fresh off its first win at the Division I level, the Merrimack College men's lacrosse team travels to Burlington, Vt. to take on the Catamounts.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack had a valiant second half effort Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Mich. against the Wolverines. The Warriors scored seven of the last 10 goals in the second half to pull free from Michigan and claim a 14-12 victory. Charlie Bertrand had five goals and Sean Black finished with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Jack Barron and Allyn French both picked up six ground balls to tie for the game lead.
- The Warriors' powerful offensive attack trio is back for the 2020 campaign and they've already been making serious noise. Bertrand, Christian Thomas and Sean Black are already one of the top offensive trios in the nation, as they've combined for 52 points on 29 goals and 23 assists. Bertrand is tops on the team in goals with 16 and Black has tallied a team-leading 12 assists. The group has now combined for 684 career points.
- After Davis Cronin and Allyn French began the season with a battle for the top face-off spot, the rookie French put in an exceptional effort against the Wolverines. He took all 29 draws and won 18 for a .621 winning percentage, which was the best effort so far this season for the Warriors. He also joined the attack and scored the first goal of his career late in the first quarter.
- Although he's come off the bench all four games so far this season, Barron has become one of the top defensive players for Merrimack. He's currently tied for the team lead with French in ground balls with 12 and has caused three turnovers, which puts him in a tie for third in the category on the team. Nicholas Perez-Blanco leads the team in caused turnovers with five and Carlin Joyal and Riley Reed both have four.
- The Catamounts have split their first two games of the season when they fell to Holy Cross, 10-9, back on Feb. 15, before they beat Quinnipiac, 16-7, last Saturday. Thomas McConvey has led Vermont in scoring during both games and has racked up 10 points on the season with six goals and four assists. The Catamounts have utilized four different players at X, but Tommy Burke has taken the most draws with 27 and he has won eight of them. Nick Washuta and Ryan Cornell have evenly split time in goal. Cornell leads the duo in saves with 16, but Washuta earned the win against the Bobcats.
