NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's lacrosse team and head coach
Mike Morgan announced its 2022 regular season schedule Tuesday afternoon two months in advance of its season opener, Feb. 5 at Hofstra.
Merrimack comes off a 5-5 mark overall and 4-4 in the NEC in just its first complete season at the NCAA Division I level and returns every single player that registered at least a point from the 2021 season, including
Jack Rooney and
Tommy Rooney, who led the team in scoring with 34 and 33 points respectively.
Sean Black (249 career points) and
Christian Thomas (225 career points) also return to help lead the Warrior offense and currently both rank in the top-5 all-time in points at the school.
Defensively,
Nicholas Perez-Blanco (18 caused turnovers) and
Christian Glover (10 caused turnovers) were a handful for opposing attacks in 2021 and the team has a huge boost, as 2019 NEILA All-New England First Team pick,
Carlin Joyal, returns for a graduate student season after he lost his senior year to a preseason injury. All four NEC All-Conference selections from 2021 are back in North Andover as well including Black, Perez-Blanco and rookie team picks,
Henry Vogt and
Joseph Jorgenson.
On the schedule itself, after it opens against the Pride Feb. 5, Merrimack is slated for three more road games to start the year with regional matchups against Boston University (Feb. 12), Dartmouth (Feb. 19) and Holy Cross (Feb. 26) before the Warriors make their return to Duane Stadium to take on Merrimack Valley rival, UMass Lowell, Mar. 5.
NEC play begins Mar. 19 when Merrimack takes on reigning league champion Bryant in Smithfield, R.I., then the Warriors travel to Long Island Mar. 26 to battle the Sharks. The conference home opener is set for Apr. 2 against Mount St. Mary's, which includes the Alumni Game before the 1:00 face-off. Merrimack heads west to battle Sacred Heart Apr. 9, before another home contest Apr. 16 when the Warriors host Hobart.
The team caps the season with two more league games, including a trip to Staten Island, N.Y. to take on Wagner Apr. 23 before the season finale back in North Andover Apr. 30 against Saint Joseph's.
