Rushing for nearly 150 yards and scoring two touchdowns as part of Saturday's Homecoming victory over Pace, senior Derrick Villard (Cromwell, Conn.)Â of the football program has been named this week's Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week.
Villard's eclipsing of the century mark on Saturday marked the second time in as many weeks that the Cromwell native has broken 100 yards. His two touchdowns brought his season total the six, and equaled the output he had in the Warriors' season opener at Bryant. Both of his trips to pay dirt came in the second half, contributing to Merrimack's 34-point win.Â
On the season, Villard leads the Warriors rushing attack in multiple areas including attempts (105), yardage (607), yards per carry (5.7) and touchdowns (6). He bested the career high he set last season in rushing yards against the Setters, reaching the 600-yard mark for the first time in his career.Â
Villard and the Warriors return to action this weekend when the Warriors travel to New Haven, Conn. to face the Southern Connecticut State Owls at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
