Senior Cassie Giza (Orange, Conn.) of the Merrimack College women's soccer team has been named the first Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week for the 2017-18 season after helping the Warriors get out to a perfect start to the year.

Giza also earned Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after scoring twice in Merrimack's season-opening, 4-0 victory over Dominican College on Friday. She had four shots, three of which landed on net in the game. Her first goal came in the 67^th minute, with her second coming in the 80^th minute.

Giza has already doubled her career-high in goals this season and is tied for the team lead with four points.

Giza and the rest of the Warriors open up conference play at No. 15 Adelphi in Garden City, New York, on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
