SOMERSET, N.J. – Five different Merrimack College athletics programs were named NEC Team GPA Award winners for their individual sports, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
The Warriors' baseball, men's basketball, men's lacrosse, men's soccer and women's tennis teams all earned the distinction, which is given to the team in the league for each sport that had the highest combined GPA from the 2020-21 academic year. Among all the athletic departments in the NEC, Merrimack had the second-highest number of team recipients, as they finished just one program shy of LIU's six winners. Merrimack also combined for a 3.464 institutional GPA among all teams for the year, which was just .018 grade points shy of Saint Francis' league-leading mark.
Among the Warriors' team GPA award winners, women's tennis had the top cumulative mark with a 3.677 finish. Men's soccer (3.568), baseball (3.460), men's lacrosse (3.430) and men's basketball (3.158) were not far off that pace as well.
Those five programs also combined for 85 honorees on the 2020-21 NEC Academic Honor Rolls, which were revealed last week.
