AMHERST, Mass. -- The Merrimack men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-5 defeat in its season-opener against the UMass Minutemen on Saturday afternoon.

Alystair Hemberger scored a team-high two goals for the Warriors, who trailed 8-4 at the half.
The Warriors had four different goal scorers with
Casey Herod,
Finn Dougherty and
Brendan Harty all finding the back of the net. Freshman attacker
Jack Salva dished a pair of assists.

Anthony Kulturides finished with eight saves.Â
Merrimack hosts its first game of the season when it entertains Holy Cross at Duane Stadium on Wednesday.
